Environmental conservation is a responsibility that we have taken on for creating a better world for today and for the future. Our focus areas include energy, water, emissions and waste.

Energy

Energy generated from fossil fuel adds to the environmental impact caused by CO2 emissions and other air pollutants, such as particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. It is our goal to use energy as efficiently as possible or to generate it ourselves in an eco-friendly manner. This is why we run our own energy management program and are continuously implementing energy efficiency measures. This way we can boost economic value and support Metro’s goal of having a neutral carbon footprint by 2035. Additionally, we offer our internal solutions to our customers and, in doing so, make an important contribution to protecting the environment.

Water

As part of our overall water sustainability plan, we have invested in several efficient Effluent treatment technologies, With the help of the Effluent & Sewage Treatment technology, we are able to treat and reuse 100% of the wastewater generated through our business operations within our campuses. Consequently, our freshwater withdrawal from the environment has reduced drastically as we reuse the recycled water for all our gardening, landscaping, flushing, and cooling needs.

Waste

At MML, solid waste management begins with effective waste segregation at source. Our goal is 100% segregation at source.

The waste we generate can be classified into four main categories:

• Food waste – includes kitchen waste, cooked food (unconsumed) and plate waste
• E-waste – includes discarded electrical or electronic devices
• Cotton Waste – Oily used Cotton Waste rags
• Mixed waste – includes any combination of waste types

Emissions

As the first Non-Ferrous Alloys manufacturing company in India to take on such an aggressive goal, we have come up with a well-thought-out strategy, which includes:

Direct Emission Control

• Constant Monitoring and rectification of emissions of our cast shops and DG sets
• Monitoring and regular maintenance and tune-ups of company owned vehicles and educating the employees, partners and providers of the same.

Indirect Emission Control

• Green procurement and advocating use of green packaging material
• Reducing Energy consumption

Biodiversity

Biodiversity plays an important role in the sustainability of ecosystems. At MML, employees are committed to creating and save environment for plants and animals. Their message is: We must help preserve biological diversity for a life worth living - for ourselves and for future generations.
